Hi! I am Jennifer O'Chester and I teach U.S. History at Leander High School. This is my 10th year at LHS, and I absolutely love my job! I am also an avid traveler and generally spend much of June and July somewhere in the mountains of the Western United States or in Western Canada. I have a reputation for getting as close to a bear as possible in order to get the "perfect picture". Call me crazy, but I do enjoy life in general.
As far as class goes, we adopted a new textbook for this year, and we have added a great deal of material to be covered. We will now be going back to the first explorers in the 1400's and will cover all the material leading up to September 11, 2001 and the War in Afghanistan. This is a tremendous amount of history to cover in one year. The new TAKS Test also provides new challenges. Obviously, my goal is for each of my students to pass and excel on the exam. Other than that, I am also committed to helping young people grow to be responsible adults. Each day in class, we will be going over "the news" in an effort to spark their interest for knowing what is going on in the world around them. My goal is that when they leave my class, they will read the newspaper and watch the news on their own. I believe that the more they know and understand, the more involved they will become. Hopefully, this will translate into them becoming active, responsible citizens for this great nation of ours. |
