Hi, my name is Jim Tarvin and I teach Journalism at Cedar Park High School. This year, in addition to teaching Journalism: Newspaper and serving as the advisor to CPHS student newspaper, The Wolfpack, I am also teaching Journalism: Broadcast. The two sections of this new broadcast class will produce a daily news report that will replace the current morning announcements. Additionally, I am a 504 Tracking Teacher and teach a 504 Study Skill class. For the first time since starting at CPHS, I will not be teaching English. This is something that I will miss, but a change that was necessary in order to make time to start up this new Broadcast Journalism program.
This is my fifth year at Cedar Park High School; in fact, this is my fifth year as a full time teacher since obtaining my original teaching certification in New York State in 1981. For 20 years, I worked in the corporate world in sales, marketing, and sales management. I spent most of the 2002-03 school year as a substitute teacher in the Leander school district while obtaining Texas certification in English/Language Arts, as well as Journalism and Speech/Communication.
I have lived in the Austin area for the past 18 years, the last nine years here in Cedar Park. I have been married for nearly 26 years to my wife, Nancy, who also works for Leander ISD as the Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum.
When I am not teaching, I can usually be found in our backyard garden or on the tennis court.
