DESIGNING YOUR PRODUCT AT HOME

The product will allow you to use both your creative and your critical thinking skills. It should:

• Show or demonstrate new information gained from your research;

• Address a complex question, issue or problem;

• Enhance your presentation;

• Be original and elaborate;

• Meet quality standards (careful construction, neat and attractive, well-organized, correct capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling).

Remember, your product should require you to think at the synthesis level. This means you will be creating something new that incorporates the knowledge you have gained. A model alone is not sufficient.

For example, if rodeo is your topic, a model of a rodeo arena will not require any significant research, analysis, or synthesis of information, and would not be an appropriate product for your independent study. However, a model of a typical rodeo arena that includes modifications to address issues of safety would require analysis and synthesis, and would therefore be an appropriate product.

Remember: The above products and any product is an appropriate QUEST product ONLY if it incorporates your new learning and requires significant research and analysis! This is done TOTALLY at home and does not need to come to school until the day of presentations.
