LANGUAGE ARTS also includes vocabulary, grammar, spelling, reading comprehension, listening comprehension and TAKS practice throughout the curriculum.

READING AND WRITING- go hand in hand in the Language Arts curriculum. My goal is to guide the students in making connections to themselves, other books and media, and the world around us. This process allows us to make inferences while we read.

Literature Circles- Students meet in groups to discuss a selected book. Each student has a different task to bring to the discussion.



Reflections- One of my favorite activities is to read a short story and then give the kids 5 minutes to respond to the story in their journals. We share our responses and the kids become so creative.

Reading Groups- I do have reading groups and our literature is all topic oriented on what units are being taught.

SPELLING-is part of the Writing grade. It is practiced in all subject areas.

VOCABULARY- Students are given vocabulary study sheets of words taken from the content currently being studied. Vocabulary tests will be administered.
