Overview
GradeSpeed.Net is a grade program delivered over the Internet that allows teachers to keep their grades and report their grades to the administration for the official office-mailed progress reports and report cards. GradeSpeed.Net has several companion programs which allow administrators to access student grades, run special reports, and update class rolls.
Starting the Year with GradeSpeed.Net
• The registrar administrates your gradebook. This means that she will add students to your gradebook as they are added to your classes and drop them from your gradebook as they are dropped from classes.

• If you notice a discrepancy (either you have a student who is not in your gradebook, or you don’t have a student who is in your gradebook), please notify Marcia as soon as possible.

• Student names will appear in your gradebook exactly as they are in the Service Center database. You cannot change them or input a nickname.

• To access your gradebook, you must use your three-digit teacher number and your password. If it is your first time to get into GradeSpeed, you do not have a password set. Just leave it blank and set one as soon as possible. Refer to GradeSpeed training materials for instructions.
Progress Reports
General Information
• Progress reports are submitted to the office at the three week mark in each grading period. The registrar will notify you of the date by which your grades and comments must be entered and verified.

• All students should receive comments, up to 5 per student.

• Only use the Campus/District codes found on the Progress Reports page in GradeSpeed.Net. Personal codes that you input into the “My Codes” section will not print on office-run progress reports.

• Only use NUMERIC codes for Progress reports

• You may choose to print individual progress reports for your students and hand them out yourself, but this does not take the place of the office-run progress report. You must still submit comments for each student by the deadline.
Steps for Completing your Progress Reports
• Input and/or update all of your grades

• Click on the Progress Reports button on the main screen

• Clear out any personal comment codes or comment codes from a previous grading period (if any)

• Enter comment codes (up to 5 per student) from the Campus/District codes section. The codes are case-sensitive, so if you see a capital letter, enter a capital letter.

• Click on the Return button

• Complete comments for all of your classes – Only use NUMERIC codes!

• You do not need to enter a Citizenship Grade for progress reports

• Print out copies of your gradebook

• Print out individual gradesheets for students if desired

• Click Verify on the front page of your gradebook. Click Yes when it asks for confirmation. You only have to verify once, not for each class. NOTE: You will be locked out of your gradebook until the registrar unlocks it.
Grade Reporting
General Information
• Grades are due at the end of every six week grading period. Every student should receive a final average, comments (up to 5 per student), and a citizenship grade in each class. The registrar will notify you of the date by which your grades and comments must be entered and verified.

• Only use the Campus/District codes found on the Progress Reports screen in GradeSpeed.Net. Personal codes that you input into the “My Codes” section will not print on office-run report cards
Steps for Completing your Report Cards
• Input and/or update all grades

• Click on the Progress Reports button on the main screen

• Clear out any personal comment codes or comment codes from progress reports by pressing the Clear button and Yes.

• Enter comment codes (up to 5 per student) from the Campus/District codes section. ONLY ENTER ALPHA CODES FOR REPORT CARDS. The codes are case-sensitive, so if you see a capital letter, enter a capital letter.

• Enter a Citizenship grade for each student. If you do not enter a Citizenship grade, the student will automatically receive an S. You may enter a:
o E – Excellent
o S – Satisfactory
o N – Needs Improvement
o U – Unsatisfactory

• Click on the Return button

• Complete comments and citizenship grades for all of your classes

• Print out copies of your gradebook

• Print out individual gradesheets for students if desired

• Click Verify on the front page of your gradebook. Click Yes when it asks for confirmation. You only have to verify once, not for each class. NOTE: You will be locked out of your gradebook until the registrar unlocks it.
Special Cases
Students who receive Incompletes
If you have a student who will receive an Incomplete grade, report that in the following way:
• Click on the student’s average to bring up only that student’s grades
• On the left side of the screen is a box that is titled “Modifications”
• Click “Incomplete” and Update
• The student’s average should now change to INC
• To remove the Incomplete, go back to the Modifications box and click on None
Students who should receive a “No Grade”
Students may not receive “No Grade” unless authorized by the registrar.
• Click on the student’s average to bring up only that student’s grades
• On the left side of the screen is a box that is titled “Modifications”
• Click “No Grade” and Update
• The student’s average should now change to NG
Students who “earn” a zero in your class
If you have a student who is present in your class but has turned in absolutely no work, you must give them some grade other than zero. If, at the end of the six week, their average is a zero, the system will give them an NG (No Grade) instead of the state-mandated 50.
Students at LEO
If you have a student at LEO, their grade will be reported to the registrar and input by her. You do not need to do anything special.
Student Aides
If you have a student aide, you must call or email the registrar and submit a grade. She will input it for you. If you do not submit a grade, the student will be given a default grade of 90.
Grade Changes
If a student’s grade changes after it has been verified and report cards have been submitted, you must notify the registrar of the new average. If you only correct your gradebook without reporting it to the registrar, the student’s grade change will not be official.
Schedule Changes
When students are dropped from your class, their name and grades will drop to the bottom of your screen with a (D) in front of them. Their grades do not go to their new teacher’s gradebook. Please give their new teacher their “exiting” average.
Troubleshooting Tips
No average shows up for my student(s) even though I’ve entered grades
Check on the Student Profile page to make sure you have not accidentally coded them “No Grade.” Also, check to make sure you still have Categories entered for that class. If neither of these things fixes the problem, contact your technology facilitator.

I keep getting a “run-time” error and get bumped out of my grades.
The most common cause for run-time errors is leaving GradeSpeed open for a long period of time (15 minutes or more) without making changes. You should close GradeSpeed anytime you aren’t using it. After 15 minutes or so, the program will time out and you will get an error when you try to use it again.

Occasionally, you will get a run-time error that is only associated with a single file. When this happens, you will always get the error whenever you try to open or update that particular assignment. If this happens to you, print out the error screen and on the bottom write your name, the class period, and the assignment and give it to your technology facilitator.

Whenever I try to enter a comment code, I get a message it is invalid.
Make sure you are using capital letters. Comment codes are case-sensitive.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have a student with an average below 50. I thought we couldn’t give students grades below 50. Do I need to change his/her grade?
No. We have set up GradeSpeed to report any grade below 50 as a 50 to the service center. It is very important, however that you never give a student a grade of 0. Students with a 0 average will end up with a “No Grade” instead of a 50.

I’ve got a new student in my class and no grades. Can’t GradeSpeed transfer the grades over?
Unfortunately, no. This remains the same as before. You will need to contact the student’s previous teacher for an average, or just start from scratch.

Do I have to clear my comment codes after progress reports?
Yes. Every three weeks, the registrar changes the Campus/District codes. Progress reports are NUMERIC codes, while report card codes are ALPHA

Why can’t I use my own codes?
You can, but the will only print on the individual reports that you print out and hand out to students. Only Campus/District codes appear on the office-run reports. This is due to limitations with the Service Center.

My class is Pass/Fail. Do I have to give a number grade?
Yes. GradeSpeed.Net only accepts number grades. We have set up your class so that only a P or an F will appear on the report card.Back To Top
