I would like to try and launch a new program this year where students are accountable for their vocabulary acquirement and retention, as this is a vital component to their learning. If it is feasible for you to purchase and Index card box, alphabet dividers, and index cards; I would be greatly appreciative, as I believe this will be advantageous to their sense of personal responsibility over their learning, and will aid in their confidence of having resources readily available to them. I do have dictionaries available to my students in the classroom, however; the words going into the vocabulary box will be words that they use often, and can remind themselves quickly of by thumbing through their box. Remember, this is only a request, not a must have, therefore; do not feel obligated to participate. Thank you for all that you do.

After parent orientation last night; I noted several concerns that parents had. I am in the process of getting books put together for you and your students to use at home to supplement the new spelling program. I know that at first this program appears to be quite involved and confusing, however; I assure you that through good communication, this program will be very beneficial for your children.

I apologize for not having any new grades posted. I have been sick since Friday. I completed what I could over the weekend, and will continue to make headway this week. Again; I apologize for the delay. Please continue to use my site as a resource; I am consistently adding items that I believe will benefit my students and their families. I have compiled a book that I will be sending off to copy center this week that will offer many ways that you can help your child with their acquisition of the Level 3 words. I also am getting ready to send in the Scholastic News Apps. I was holding out to see if anybody else wanted to participate. I did not receive enough for a class set, however; have decided to go ahead and order them as an extra credit item for those students who did purchase them. I will purchase one myself, and let the students who do not have one take turns reading each selection. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a house, or I would put the additional funds into the pot.

Please ask your kiddos about their spelling workbook that I had made for each of them, as well as, their families. I am hoping that this will better assist you in guiding your student through a successful third grade year.
