    Mrs. Anne Whaley
Our children are our future!
WELCOME TO 4TH GRADE MATH AND READING!
My name is Anne Whaley. I will be your child’s Reading and Math teacher this year. I would like to share a little about myself with you and some basic information about 4th grade.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I am certified to teach Reading, English and a Self-Contained classroom in Texas. This does not mean that I cannot teach the other subjects also, but rather that I may “specialize” in these particular subjects in grades 1-8. I also hold a principalship certificate. This will be my 8th year to teach here at Naumann and my 11th year in the profession. (I stayed home with my own children for 6 years.) I have been married for 17 years and have two children who are in 8th and 6th grade this year. I LOVE my job and am very thrilled to be your child’s teacher for this very important year in their life!
Fourth grade is (again) a very big TAKS year for students. The Writing TAKS test is administered in February and the Reading and Math tests are given in April. Unlike last year, these tests will have no bearing on whether or not your child is promoted to 5th grade. But, of course, we will work very hard to do the best that we can on these important tests.
Fourth grade is often considered a transition year for students as we try to instill in them a greater sense of responsibility for their own learning. After all, in just 2 short years, your baby will be in junior high! While I expect that some students will have a hard time adjusting to the higher expectations set for them in fourth grade, please feel assured that I understand that they are only 9 and 10. I always keep this in mind as I “push” your child to grow to be the best person that he/she can be. I want fourth grade to be challenging AS WELL AS enjoyable for your child. I think you will see some wonderful “growing up” going on this year!!
If you have any questions for me throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to call. My conference time is from 855 – 940 everyday or we can meet after school if necessary.
Again, welcome to 4th grade and let’s all look forward to having a great year!
