These techniques are used by all of my English classes. These techniques can be used for any type of reading and most especially for the reading of literature which is deeply analyzed for the extra layers of meaning that the author works hard to embed in the story. It also allows the student to ask the questions they have while reading. For struggling readers, if they will make the effort to use the techniques, they will discover an understanding that they have been missing before. For good readers, they will be frustrated at first because it will make them slow down their reading, but that is the point. We are trying to move beyond the simple understanding of the plot and move into the realm of true understanding and higher level thinking.
