Nine Week Assessments
Early Reading Instrument (ERI) K-2
Pursuant to Texas Education Code §28.006 an early reading assessment will be administered to each student in grades K-2 for diagnosing reading skills and comprehension development and to identify where along the continuum of growth students are progressing as readers.

Leander ISD has adopted the use of DIBELS (The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) and DRA2 (Developmental Reading Assessment). These are based on scientific research and focus on the domains in reading of: phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency.

When the Early Reading Instrument data indicates a student needs targeted instruction in a specific area, intervention may include one-on-one or small group instruction with the teacher, additional instruction by another teacher, and/or placement in the school's early reading intervention program.

A report of each child's scores will be sent home to parents.
Nine-Week Assessments (K-5):
Kindergarten through fifth grade students in Leander ISD will be given a nine week assessment at the end of each nine week grading period. These assessments test the skills (TEKS-Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) that are to be taught each nine weeks according to the LISD Units of Study. The results of each assessment will determine the students that have mastered all the expected skills for that particular nine weeks as well as those students who will need further targeted instruction of the skills not mastered.

Parents will receive a computer printout after each nine week assessment. Students will set personal learning goals and track their progress in Student Data Notebooks.
