Welcome Back!! I hope everyone had a restful and wonderful Holiday Season!!
It is testing time for the 2nd nine weeks. This week we will be reviewing the skills that we have learned to prepare for assessments. Our testing days will be on Jan. 12-13. I will have a sub during the morning on those two days so I can assess the children.
I will continue to assess the children on their reading levels (DRA2)this week and next week. I will put 3 new books in their folders to practice reading at home. Some students have been given a higher reading level to provide a little bit more challenging reading material in preparation for the DRA assessment. Your child should read the books for both fluency and comprehension.
To help prepare your child for the upcoming assessments, you can practice 1st and 2nd nine week sight words, math facts, and writing their fist and last name.

Since we have come back from our break, I have communicated with the children that the expectations will rise for us as we continue through the second half of first grade. The first grade team have decided to create a rubric for all independent work done by students. This quality rubric will go into effect for the new semester. My goal for this rubric is to help the children see what quality work is and what is expected of them. I have added a link named "Quality Rubric" to our website. Please take a look when you get the chance for more details. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
