 My name is Jayme Herrera and I am the Dance teacher here at Henry Middle School. I am also the Black Diamonds Dance Team Director. I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education, specializing in Dance, which I earned from Southwest Texas State University. I have been dancing since I was in 8th grade, and was a member of the Brahmadora Dance Team for two years at Mac Arthur high school in San Antonio. This is my sixth year of teaching, and my fifth year at HMS. I currently live here in Austin with my husband Michael, and our dogs Bailey and Blitz.
When I am not at school teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my friends, participating in my bible study,taking my dogs on walks, going to the gym with Ms.Daley, reading my US Weekly :), and catching up on my favorite re-runs, including Beverly Hills 90210 and FRIENDS. I LOVE music of all kinds, and am notorious for making random playlists for my Ipod for no particular reason :). I LOVE to find new, up and coming bands and I LOVE watching live music! My favorite foods are Italian, Mexican, Chinese..WAIT! I love all foods! I will never pass up a meal or snack. :) I am also addicted to TV shows! Some of my favorites are: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars (obviously),Big Brother, Lipstick Jungle, October Road,the NEW 90210, One Tree Hill, and Grey's Anatomy. :) I don't like certain fragrances of vanilla, dealing with drama or gossip :), paying bills, or doing laundry. My FAVORITE thing about being a teacher would have to be: watching my students with no dance experience transform into beautiful dancers,building strong bonds with my dance team members and officers, and my dance class students, but most of all, hearing about how much my kids learn from me. It is a profession that is so incredibly challenging, but SO amazingly rewarding all at the same time. It is what I have always wanted to do, and I am very lucky to be where I am in my life.

 Mine and my husband's pooch Bailey loves to sun bathe! Bailey is also referred to as "Bailey-Boo dog", "Mr.Snooty", and "Pumpkin" in our house as well. In his spare time he enjoys laying in the sun (as shown to the left), chewing on raw hides, eating....anything, and most of all, SLEEPING! Bailey also enjoys chasing the occasional squirrel and following along in his brother's mischevious missions, which include sneaking into the garage and trying to get into whichever vehicle may be parked in the garage...Yes, they are THAT smart! Bailey was rescued from the Town Lake Animal Shelter in May of 2002. |
 I absolutely adore my Rottweiler, Blitz! Eventhough he likes to drool on me, I absolutely love him to death! Although he is the youngest of the two, you would never know it by his willingness to lead the pack....He is never afraid to go "exploring" into places he knows he is not permitted. |
 Mr.Blitzers (a.k.a. Mr.Mischief) is the best guard dog ever! Just look at that face!! When he is not "guarding the house", Mr. B enjoys chewing on his bones, barking at deer or at random passers-by,chasing squirrels,drooling on his mom, and sneaking into things he knows he is not supposed to. Although Blitzers would not hesitate to attack anyone who decided to burglarize our humble abode, he is quite the sweetheart, and will lick you to death to prove it! Mr. Blitzers was rescued and brought into our home in December of 2003. |
