The goal of this class is to prepare you to be a successful person and to have a successful life. To accomplish this goal we will cover the following topics this year:
Personal Development- maturity, decision making, self esteem, friendships, relationships
Family- types of families, functions of family, factors affecting families (culture, technology, money, violence, communication)
Child Development- growth and development, child care, guidance, project
Apparel- selection of clothing, clothing care, project
Nutrition and Food- nutrients, dietary guidelines, etiquette, food safety, basic meal preparation, project
Consumer and Resource Management- financial goals and priorities, resources, budgeting, using credit, credit scores
Housing- selection and maintenance of homes, interior design, project
Career Preparation- leadership skills, teamwork, portfolio and resume
Personal and Family Development is meant to be an introduction to other courses in Family and Consumer Science. Many of these topics are covered in more detail by other courses at Vista Ridge. Passports related to this course include Culinary Arts, Education, Early Childhood Education, Interior Design and Architecture, Fitness and Wellness, Health Science Technology, Hospitality, Medical Science, Sports Medicine, Human Relations, and many more!

You are to choose a designer or name brand to research and write about. Your paper should be 2 pages double spaces with a works cited page as well. You need 3-5 sources. You can research/write about history of the brand or designer, current activity or lines, price ranges of clothing, who is the target consumer, how do they advertise?
