MATERIALS: 2 – 1/16” x 1” x 3” mild steel plate

PROCEDURE: 1. Clean the surface of metal to remove any rust, scale, or dirt.
2. Align and support the two pieces using the fire bricks in the work
stations.
3. Light and adjust torch to a neutral flame and tack weld both ends of the lap joint.
4. Using the forehand technique begin welding the joint holding the filler rod in the leading edge of the puddle.
5. The rod and torch must be manipulated simultaneously in order to make a good weld.

(Remember always wear proper eye protection.)
