Reading Responses

Reading Group Novels are continuing. Students should be completing their assigned work (posted in class) no later than Wednesday (2/13)

Yes, I do assign homework every week. You can expect to see a spelling packet and a reading response log. Occasionally, I will assign some other types of homework or will change the amounts for shortened weeks. All students fill in the expected homework on their planners. Feel free to contact me if you have concerns.

Due to the fact that majority of our students have been passing the Core Words test, we are now giving it as a PRE-TEST on Monday. Students who miss 2 or less just need to return it on Thursday. Others will retest on Thursday along with their Pattern words (given on Mondays). Students' words are leveled based on individual student's needs. Tests are usually multiple choice or related to the spelling pattern.

Every week, students receive a reading response log. It is expected that students read for 15-20 minutes every night. Students then write a response to what they read. The back is now blank as students are able to choose what to respond about. Students should be reading books at their individual level. While I believe comic books and magazines are valid reading material, it is not appropriate for the reading responses. Students will hear me refer to these types of books as "fun" books. Once a student is finished reading a book, they are expected to do a book report (see book reports section).
