My name is Jim Tarvin and I teach Journalism here at Cedar Park High School. In addition to teaching Journalism: Newspaper and serving as the advisor to CPHS student newspaper, The Wolfpack, I also teach Journalism: Broadcast. The two sections of this broadcast journalism class produce a daily broadcast / news report called The Wolfcast. Additionally, I am the 504 Tracking Teacher and teach a 504 Study Skill class.
This is my sixth year at Cedar Park High School; in fact, this is my sixth year as a full time teacher since obtaining my original teaching certification in New York State in 1981. For 20 years, I worked in the corporate world in sales, marketing, and sales management. I spent most of the 2002-03 school year as a substitute teacher in the Leander school district while obtaining Texas certification in English/Language Arts, Speech/Communication and Journalism.
I have lived in the Austin area for the past 19 years, the last ten years here in Cedar Park. I have been married for nearly 26 years to my wife, Nancy, who also works for Leander ISD as the Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum.
When I am not teaching, I can usually be found in our backyard garden or on the tennis court.
