My name is Jo Lynn Crawford and I teach Business Computer Information Systems I and II and Accounting at Vista Ridge High School. This is my 5th year here at VRHS, and prior to that I taught Business classes at LHS for 6 years and for 10 years before that at Austin Community College. My hobbies are my four daughters and all the activities in which they’re involved: Erin is a Texas Tech graduate with an MBA; Emily is a Senior at Texas State (fondly remembered as Southwest Texas)and plans to major in Exercise and Sports Science; Morgan is a Freshman at Texas State majoring in Education and playing volleyball team; Meredith is a Freshman here at Vista where she plays volleyball and softball.
The BCIS I classes begin the year by learning how to touch-type with the proper technique using Microtype 3.0 Software. In the 2nd 6-weeks period we begin doing document processing in Microsoft Word. The 2nd semester we begin using Excel, Access and PowerPoint software and finish the year with some internet research projects and presentations. This class satisfies the state’s requirement of one technology credit and is also a "Tech Prep" class. This means if the student has at least a 'B' average for the year, they will automatically get college credit for it when they take any class at ACC.
BCIS II goes much more in depth than BCIS I with the various Microsoft programs. The students are strongly encouraged to take the MOS certification exam. This will be arranged sometime during the second semester, and there is a fee involved.
