My great-grandparents were one-room-school teachers on the prairies of Kansas. I was fascinated by their stories, and I treasure the old brass school bell that was once my great-grandmother's, used to call the children in for class from the surrounding countryside. I wanted to be a teacher from earliest recollection.
This is my 12th year in public schools, my third year teaching kindergarten.
I have taught in Texas, California and Tennessee, grades K-6. I am certified in Gifted & Talented Education from Baylor, and received an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from University of North Texas.
I taught and served as an Instructional Specialist in Fort Worth ISD several years before becoming an educational consultant for two major publishing companies.
After taking time to be a stay-at-home parent to children, I went back to teaching with renewed perspective -- that of a parent, as well as teacher. Both of my sons attend River Place Elementary, in 1st and 3rd grades.
My approach has been shaped by multiple influences, through experience and research-based methods. I continually incorporate Multiple Intelligence theory, as well as employing a student-centered approach.
I feel that because every student has a unique experience base and learning style composite, teaching is optimized by tailoring instruction as much as possible to accommodate these.
I sing and play guitar. Music is used daily to build skills, increase involvement, and make memories.
