Welcome to the 2008 - 2009 school year!
My name is Karen Lohman, and I am looking forward to being your child's Kindergarten Teacher this school year. I am anxiously awaiting the start of a new learning adventure. I am also excited about getting to know all of my students and parents!

I am honored to be one of the "founding members" of River Place Elementary School! I am a very passionate person. This school year will mark my fifth year of teaching in Leander ISD. I taught 2nd Grade for 3 years and this will be my 2nd year to teach Kindergarten. I am thrilled to be teaching Kindergarten, as that is where my heart truly is! Kindergarten is a FUN, essential & critical year in the educational learning process. The foundation for and of learning is laid in Kindergarten. I am looking forward to a memorable adventure in learning with you and your child this year! Students will learn many things, including: their ABC's and the different sounds each letter makes, writing stories, and we will READ, READ, READ! In math some of the things we will learn will be: how to read numbers up to 100 and write numbers up to 20, recognition of geomatrical shapes, measurement, and problem solving skills too! In science we will learn about the weather and seasons; life cycles; rocks, soil & water; living & nonliving organisms; and the senses. In social studies we will learn about our world and the role that we play in our world, including: holidays and cultural celebrations, historical events, map skills, citizenship, and much more! In Kindergarten we will emphasize what it means to be a good friend, and why it is important to be a good friend.

We work together as a team in our classroom: teacher, students, and parents!

My FAMILY shapes my life . . .
My "boys" . . . Dylan (son) and Carl/Mr. Lohman (hubby) . . .
What a PERFECT back ground!!
My Pride and Joy . . . and ALWAYS my baby boy . . .
Dylan rescued a live starfish!! . . . and set it free . . . wonder where it is now . . .
Boys will be boys . . .
Now, a little bit about myself . . .
I have a Master Degree in Education, majoring in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources Management. I am very family-oriented, and this core value that shapes my life definitely flows into the classroom. My students and parents are my "classroom family". I have been married to my wonderful husband (and BEST friend) Carl for 19 years! We have one very remarkable and talented son named Dylan (pictured above and below!), who is a seventh grader at Cedar Park Middle School. In my spare time (ha!) I enjoy camping (NOT in a tent) with my family and just spending time with my wonderful family! I also enjoy shopping, talking!, gardening and reading.

I share many of my personal experiences with my students -- especially those involving
Mr. Lohman and Dylan. Your child will hear about my family and our FUN adventures often!

Look, Mom!! I caught a big one!!
Is this a good shot, Mom??
Who is this walking into what looks like the skyline??? . . . none other than . . . DYLAN!!
Again, I am very excited to be your child's Kindergarten Teacher this school year at
River Place Elementary School!
We have a fun and adventurous year of learning ahead of us!
Working together, I know we can make this a successful year for your child.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time, for any reason.
