Students will receive and thoroughly go over the classroom rules and procedures Tuesday and Wednesday of the first week of school. They are required to keep a copy in their LA binders. A copy will remain on this site all year for you to download as well.

Book Bingo - ongoing requirement for setting goals with independent reading. This is due at the end of the year!

This is a creative and fun way to report and share a book students should have read from start to finish at some point during the 9 week grading period. Students received a hard copy of this in class Monday, October 6th.

Ratiocination - a fabulous revision strategy we will dive into soon and use throughout the year.

This 9 weeks we will continue working on summary skills but will switch our target focus to reflective thinking. Students will look for parts of the text to highlight and note it on the left side and respond (reflect) on the right. See the example provided.

Students began an independent research on a topic of choice immediately after Thanksgiving Break. They were provided 5 days of research time in the computer lab and over 73 reference books from our library were available as well. Students will receive 3 class days to put their poster together. If they have not used their class time wisely, they may need to complete this at home. Below you will find the directions and a rubric.

The creative book report for the 2nd 9 weeks is called a One Pager. Students received a hard copy of the directions and an example in class on Monday, Jan. 5th. The assignment is due Friday, Jan. 16th and will count as a test grade on the 3rd 9 weeks. Students will complete the One Pager on their own time for homework. If they need help, students will need to schedule tutoring/support time with me.
