5th Grade Social Studies - US History
The following link outlines the 5th grade Social Studies TEKS (skills/concepts) we will cover this year.

Extra Support - Study Center
We will use the textbook as a major source in addition to library materials, databases and the web for hands on sources throughout the year.

If you are struggling or need to review for a test or project, the following link is a great tool.
However, you should ALWAYS take your Social Studies spiral home and check out a textbook if you feel you need the extra support prior to a test.

Geography Support
Along with all the key people and events that have shaped our country, we will also look at the land itself - the geography and learn facts about all 50 states. Explore the following links for fun and review when needed.

www.history.com/states.do
This site is great for finding information on individual states.

www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf
This site is an interactive United States geography game. Can you name and identify the location of each state?
Current Unit - The Revolutionary War
After reading, discussing, and assessing our knowledge of how America rallied, fought, and earned independence from Britain, students selected a topic (a revolutionary person, place thing/event) of choice to research further. See my downloads link for the specific directions and a rubric.

We will spend some time on map skills and geography when we return from the break. Then it is "Westward Young Boys and Girls" building the western frontier unit.

The following links are credible web sources that provide decent overviews/most topics selected by students:

www.americanrevolution.com
This site offers a great overview with links to almost all key events and people.

www.sfsocialstudies.com
This is a great fact finder for all social studies topics.

www.pbs.org/ktca/liberty/chronicle.html

Good for general facts, covers major events/battles and key people

www.americanrevolution.org
A good link to some unknown “truths”, but a little difficult to read with higher vocabulary.

www.picturehistory.com
This is great for authentic primary source pictures/documents.

memory.loc.gov/ammem/index.html
A good site for primary sources/original documents.
