    Mrs. Nancy Schroeder
Our children are our future!
Hello, my name is Nancy Schroeder. I have been at Leander High School since 1994. I teach Government, Advanced Placement Government, Economics and Advanced Placement Economics. All are required courses for graduation and are described below. If ever you have any questions, please call 435-8000 or e-mail (nancy_schroeder@leanderisd.org)

Government is intended to provide students with an understanding of the structure and function of national, state and local governments in the United States. The format of the class will vary from day to day. In addition to lectures, we will hold seminar-style discussions, undertake analysis of current political issues, engage in group work, hold mock sessions of government bodies, listen to guest speakers, and conduct research on the World Wide Web. I hope you will find the material covered and topics discussed interesting. The purpose of the course is for you to become active and informed citizens of your community.

AP Government and Politics is a highly structured, very demanding college level course. Students are required not only to read thoroughly the college level text, but also to augment this material through research and reading of supplemental articles and then critically apply the findings to the political nature of current governmental policies and analyze the ramification of these policies. One of the primary objectives of this course is to expose students to all areas of information covered on the AP examination. Thus it is imperative that a high level academic environment exist and that the student is dedicated to learning, is highly motivated, and is willing to put forth both in and outside of the classroom the time and effort required for a course of this intensity. Student should remember that an extra 10 points is a part of this course, thus quality work is expected for graded rendered.

Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits is the culmination of the economic content and concepts studied from Kindergarten through required secondary courses. The focus is on the basic principles concerning production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services in the United States and a comparison with those in other countries around the world.

AP Economics is an introduction to Macroeconomics. This subdivision of Economics deals with the economy as a whole: aggregate national income and output, government spending and taxation, money and banking, monetary policy and international trade. Macroeconomics deals with the overall level of output, its rate of growth, and the level of prices in general. A college level text is used and students are required to apply the concepts to current conditions to see what steps should be taken to improve the economy.
