OS 9 vs. OS X
The main difference is the way the desktop looks and how to access applications and your documents.

For more on OS X, review the OS X User's Guide
OS X Hints & Tips
- Frozen? If the computer seems frozen, try force quitting the application first: press the option & apple keys together and hold, and then press the esc key. Click on the application being used and click on the Force Quit button. If the computer is still frozen, press and hold the power button until the computer shuts off and then turn it back on.

- Too many windows open? You can hide windows by pressing the apple key and the h key. To bring the window back up, click on it's icon on the dock.
Student Software
Kid Pix 3X:
- First time login requires clicking on the Accept button for the license agreement.

- To access the menu bar, put cursor at the very top of the window (the cursor will change to an inverted triangle) and click. To permanently keep the menu bar visible, click on Kid Pix / Kid Pix Preferences and uncheck the box next to "Menu bar hiding on".

- When saving files, leave the default location that Kid Pix provides. Saved files are automatically saved under Documents / Kid Pix Users / name / My Pictures.

Other Learning Games:
Most of the learning games are older and will not run natively in OS X, they need to bring up a subset of OS 9 called Classic. You will see a window stating that "Classic is starting". If the application does not automatically start, click on the icon again.

A to Zap's colors do not display correctly the first time. Quit and restart and it should look better.
Computer Hints & Tips
Restarting Computers:
If your computer seems frozen, try force quitting the application first (see instructions above). If that doesn't work, then restart the computer by pushing and holding the power button until you hear the power turn off and the screen goes blank (5-10 seconds). Wait 10 seconds and turn it back on.
