Grading Policy |
 | |
.Report cards will go out every nine weeks. We usually send report cards home the Wednesday after the nine week period ends.

Homework |
|
| |
There will not be a lot of homework for language arts. I do expect all homework to be completed and turned in on time. Usually students will have two days to complete an assignment. This allows flexibility for busy schedules.
Spelling will be a regular assignment for all students. All students are expected to read for a minimum of 15 minutes each night. Anything on the students reading level is appropriate for this reading-novels, nonfiction books, magazines and newspapers are all acceptable reading material.
Approximately every other week students will be doing a geography assignment called GROW (Geographic Regions of the World). Students must answer 6 to 10 questions and it must be done in cursive. GROW is assigned on Monday and due on Thursday. Social studies books, atlases, the Internet and any other resources from school or home may be used to answer these questions. The purpose of the assignment is to help students use the resources available to find answers to questions they may have.

Late Work and Failing Grades |
|
| |
Late work will be counted 10 points off for per day that it is late. All late or incomplete work must be completed. Test grades below 70% can be retaken for a credit of 70%. DOL and spelling tests may not be retaken.

Progress Reports |
|
| |
Progress reports will be sent home at least every three weeks. They must be signed and returned to the teacher.

|
DOL Daily Oral Language |
|
| |
DOL will be done in class everyday. This is a skills based grammar practice. The students will analyze sentences with errors in them. They are to write the sentences correctly in their DOL spiral. As a whole group, we will make corrections on the overhead and the students will correct their work using a colored pen or pencil.
We usually do two sentences a day. At the end of each unit the students will have a test. The test will simply be 5-6 of the sentences that they have worked on during the unit. All students need to take home their spiral and study the sentences the night before the test.
All skills are thoroughly covered in class.

Agendas must be signed every night except Saturday and Sunday. Please check the agenda before you sign it and make sure that your child has written down and completed all assignments. If there is no homework, students are to write this by the correct class.
Agendas are a god communications tool between home and school. Please look for notes and feel free to jot notes in y9ur child's agenda.
