    QUEST

When are students identified for the QUEST program?
All elementary students new to LISD are screened in August or May. All LISD kindergarten students are screened in January. Several summer testing dates are offered for secondary students in grades 6-12. These dates are posted on the district website. Students in grades K-12 may be nominated at any time by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, self, or peers. The person nominating a student should complete a referral form and return it to the campus QUEST teacher.
Who does the screening and testing?
The QUEST resource teachers at each campus administer the screening measures. The measures are evaluated and scored by the QUEST Identification and Placement Committee. This committee is made up of all the district K-12 QUEST teachers plus the district coordinator. All have at least 30 hours of training in gifted education plus additional hours of training in testing and identification of gifted students. Placement decisions are made by this committee.
Where can I find more information about the screening process?

2008 Summer Secondary QUEST Testing
The below dates are scheduled for new to Leander ISD secondary students or for returning LISD secondary students (in grades 6-12) who wish to be tested for QUEST. Current Leander ISD QUEST students do NOT need to be retested to move to middle or high school QUEST. Please note that elementary students (K-5) should NOT come to these screening dates. Elementary students are tested on their campuses during the first weeks of the new school year.

If you plan for your student to be screened and tested for QUEST, please bring the following materials: student’s 2007-08 report card, 2007-08 TAKS (or out of state performance test scores), and if applicable, Achievement Test scores, documentation of participation in Gifted Programs and documentation of gifted testing scores.

There are two testing sessions on each date. Students may come to either the 9 a.m. or the 1 p.m. session. Screening/testing is untimed, and thus students may take from 2 to three or more hours, and may be asked to return a second date to complete the screening/testing process. Students may bring books or mutable game devices and snacks for breaks in the screening/testing process.

If you have any questions about the Leander ISD Gifted Program, QUEST, or about the testing process, please contact Kathy Wood at kathy.wood@leanderisd.org or at 434-5107.

Please email kathy.wood@leanderisd.org to register your student(s) for whichever date is most convenient for you. Students may come to any testing date, no matter which secondary campus they will attend in 2008-09.

Parents will get preliminary testing results within two weeks of the testing. If you have specific questions about the summer testing process, please email me with a return email or phone number so I can contact you directly.
