2008 Camp Invention
Camp Invention Summer Program
Leander ISD is pleased to host the Camp Invention program for our sixth year. Camp Invention is an exciting weeklong summer day experience for children entering grades one through six in 2008-09. The Camp Invention program integrates science, mathematics, history, and the arts in an exciting environment conducive to learning! It is designed to inspire creative and inventive thinking through hands-on activities and F-U-N!

Camp Invention will be located at Rutledge Elementary School in Leander ISD. There are two different camps, with the first, Camp Create, happening the week of June 16-20, 2008. Children will participate in five inventive modules each day, which include: figuring out a way to leave a foreign planet during the Problem Solving on Planet ZAK® module, redesigning skateboards and enhancing vehicle safety features in the Spills and Chills™ module and creating miniature amusement park rides during the Imagination Point: Ride Physics™ module.

Camp Imagine is the week of June 23-27, 2008, with new activities that include: children will not only become the first astronauts to explore the planet Mars in the M.A.R.S. (Moving at Rocket Speed)™ module, but also renovate a museum’s sculpture garden in the Art Park™ module and rebuild and clean a polluted city to make a more eco-friendly environment for its residents during the Saving Sludge City™ module.

LISD teacher Sarah Hyde will direct the program, and certified LISD teachers will lead the five modules each day. Enthusiastic LISD high school students will serve as counselors. The program features a low staff to child ratio, with one staff member for every eight children.

The registration fee includes snacks and a Camp Invention T-shirt. Call 1.800.968.4332 today to inquire about savings opportunities for your family.

Registration is done ONLY through Camp Invention. Registration is limited to 110 children for each camp, and spaces are limited. Don’t let your child miss all the fun!

Summer 08 QUEST testing for new to LISD secondary students, grade 6-12
Summer 2008 QUEST (Gifted Program) Testing

The below dates are scheduled for new to Leander ISD secondary students or for returning LISD secondary students (entering grades 6-12) who wish to be tested for QUEST. Current Leander ISD QUEST students do NOT need to be retested to move to middle or high school QUEST. Please note that elementary students (entering grades K-5) should NOT come to these screening dates. First – fifth grade students are screened on their campuses during the first weeks of the new school year, and kindergarten students are screened in January.

If you plan for your student to be screened and tested for QUEST, please bring to the testing site the following materials: student’s 2007-08 report card, 2007-08 TAKS (or out of state performance test scores), and if applicable, Achievement Test scores, documentation of participation in Gifted Programs and documentation of gifted testing scores.

There are two testing sessions on each date. Students may come to either the 9 a.m. or the 1 p.m. session. Screening/testing is untimed, and thus students may take from 2 to three or more hours, and may be asked to return a second date to complete the screening/testing process. Students may bring books or mutable game devices and snacks for breaks in the screening/testing process.

If you have any questions about the Leander ISD Gifted Program, QUEST, or about the testing process, please contact Kathy Wood at kathy.wood@leanderisd.org or at 434-5107. You may also find information about Leander ISD gifted and advanced programs at www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=academics.home

Please email kathy.wood@leanderisd.org to register your student(s) for whichever testing session is most convenient for you. Students may come to any testing date, no matter which secondary campus they will attend in 2008-09.

Please be sure to bring the required materials listed above.
