What do you mean 'I forgot my password'?
Students unable to login
As more & more classes are reaching the point where technology is being used, teachers and students are discovering that students may have problems logging in to the network. Listed below are some things to check.

Error message: “LDAP Contextless login: User not found after searching the trees…”

Computer was unable to find a network account with that name. This could occur for the following reasons:

New Student
If the student just enrolled into the school, they will not yet have a server account as it gets created overnight through an automated procedure. The student will not be able to login until the day after they have enrolled.

To verify, logged on as a teacher, you can access your S: drive; all high school student accounts are listed there. If there is not a folder for the student, then they do not have a network account.

If the student has been enrolled for two or more days, you will need to contact the Help Desk and report lack of student account.

Incorrect Username
The student’s network username consists of the first 8 letters of their last name followed by an underscore, and then their ID number. Usernames never contain any punctuation marks (other than the underscore) or spaces.

Examples:
Buford Battleaxe (ID#123456) would login as battleax_123456
Di Rhea (ID#654321) would login as rhea_654321
Billy Nerd-Bait (ID#000001) would login as nerdbait_000001

Loss of Network Connection:
The computer may have lost its connection to the network. Check all network wires and try again. If recurs, try on another system. If works on another system, please report to Help Desk that original system is not seeing the network. If it also fails at another computer, please report to Help Desk as a problem with student account.

Error message: “The system could not log you into the network…”

Computer recognizes student account name, but is not accepting password.

Incorrect Initial Password
The students default password is their birthdate in the following format: YYYYMMDD. Students get 6 grace logins and MUST change their password before they use up their grace logins.

Examples:
Buford’s birthdate is July 3, 1997; default password would be 19970703
Billy’s birthdate is December 16, 1998; default password would be 19981216

Forgotten or changed password
The student no longer remembers the password they created or someone with knowledge of their password has changed it. Please email Help Desk and request the student’s password to be reset to the initial default password (their birthdate). There can be up to a 24 hour turn-around on password resets. The reporting teacher will be notified once the password is reset, so the student will need to check back with that teacher.

Error message: “Login denied. You have not changed your password and your grace login has expired…”

Though required and reminded, the student never changed their password and has used up their six grace logins. Please call the Help Desk and request that the student’s grace logins be reset. Then observe the student logging in and ensure that the student immediately changes their password.

To be accepted, the changed password must meet certain criteria: (1) 8 or more characters long, (2) not contain anything that LISD knows regarding the student (i.e. can not contain name, ID number, etc.) and (3) be something the student can remember.
