    Ms. Sandie Brechin
Our children are our future!
Hi. I am Sandie Brechin. I have been an art teacher with Leander High School since 1997. I am a practicing artist as well as teacher. I received my education from York Academy of Arts as well as a BFA from the University of Texas. Art has always been a haven for me. From my early years in Jr. High School and into High school, art was the thing that helped me through the confusing adolescent years. I believe that art is so important especially during these developmental years for helping students express themselves, in ways that they may not be able to otherwise. In my classes, I help students build skills to express themselves and the process the world they see and experience.

This year I am teaching Art 1, Drawing 2, Drawing 3 and 4, Painting 2, 3, and 4, the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes. By the end of the year, I expect my Art 1 students to be exposed to the elements and principles of art. They will have explored basic techniques and materials by making various artworks. In Drawing 2,
The students will review the art principles and elements in more depth, and learn techniques specific to drawing. Drawing 3 and 4 will progress further still, with technical information and drawing skills. Painting 2, 3 and 4 depending on the students’ knowledge, we will review the techniques of painting, and elements and principles of art.
My Advanced Placement classes will work toward achieving a portfolio, which will be submitted for evaluation, once they have achieved 24 quality pieces of work. The International Baccalaureate students will be required to generate 10 pages of work in their journals per week and work on studio projects over the course of two years. This program culminates in a 45 minute presentation before a judge.
I look forward to a productive year.
