Our children are our future!
Westside E.S.L.
Welcome to the E.S.L. program. My name is Sara Frankie. I am the E.S.L. teacher on the Westside Elementary campus.

I am very excited about being a part of the opening of Westside Elementary School. This will be my sixth year in education. I was previously at Naumann Elementary where I taught Kindergarten for five years. I am originally from South Texas. I graduated in May, 2003 from the University of Texas-Pan American, in Edinburg, TX. I hold a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I am certified by the state of Texas to teach Pre-K through 6th grade. I also have an additional certification in English as a Second Language and am certified by the state to instruct Pre-K through 5th grade E.S.L.

I live in Austin with my wonderful husband Dave. I enjoy going to the movies, trying new restaurants, and shopping! I LOVE Sonic, ALL chocolate, Starbucks, and Costco!

I believe that each child walks into my classroom with unique personalities and gifts. I believe every child can succeed, and I hope to be a part in helping your child reach his or her potential. I am looking foward to a wonderful year! I am eager to work closely with you, your child, and your child's classroom teacher.

What is the E.S.L Program Look Like?
E.S.L. Stands for English as a Second Language. It is an intensive English language instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending English. It is taught by teachers who have been trained in recognizing and working with many different languages. It uses the academic and cultural experience of the student as a platform to provide the appropriate instruction in English. An E.S.L. program teaches language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies using strategies and methodologies appropriate for second language acquisition. This involves collaboration with the E.S.L. teacher and the classroom teacher in planning and instruction to best meet the language needs of your child.
How can parents become involved in the E.S.L program?
Parents must first sign their approval for students to participate in the program. Parents may then volunteer in classroom activities, and encourage their child at home to achieve, by providing a place to study, and show interest in schoolwork.
