Goal Setting
Goal setting is a crucial part of the continuous improvement classroom and of Student Data Folders. Students must practice setting goals until they become proficient enough to do it on their own. Use these guidelines when goal setting with students.

  • Set goals as a class and as individual students.
  • Goals must be measureable.
  • Keep in mind each student's current level when setting goals.
  • Define the measurement instrument to best measure each particular goal.
  • Start small!

    Goals and Reflections -
After each quarter the child should be able to take a look at the “whole” picture for each subject area or the area you want them to reflect upon and set new goals from that. They should be able to restate what their goal was, if they met it, how do they know, what their new goal will be, and how they plan to get there. It is beneficial to keep all of these reflections together in a place where the child can pull them out and revisit their goals and action plans. By keeping these sheets in a “reachable” place it also allows the children to go back and see the progress they are making through the course of the year.
