Mission Statements define a purpose for the teacher, students, parents, and other key stakeholders of the learning environment.
Setting the Mission Statement
A clear mission statement can build unity, purpose, commitment, and clarity of vision, all of which are vital to the success of your classroom.
Use the following 5 questions as a guide to creating a class mission with your students.
1. Who are we?
2. What are we here to do?
3. How will we do this?
4. Who are we doing this for?
5. Why are we doing this?
After answering each of the questions together create a one or two sentence statement that your class can agree on as their mission.
Here is an example of what it
might look like:
We are fourth graders in Ms. Baecke’s class who are working to achieve our personal best while working and playing in a supportive and challenging learning environment. We are committed to this mission because we want to be successful students who are proud of our accomplishments.
