Hello! My name is Sharla Patterson. I am a 3rd grade teacher at Block House Creek Elementary. I have been teaching 3rd grade at BHC since 1995. I consider it a priviledge to be a part of the Block House Creek family and especially the 3rd grade team.

We have just completed our matter kit. Next 9 weeks we will be learning about water systems. We are looking forward to doing some more fun experiments!

This year our focus in social studies will be communities. We will be discussing why people live in a community and the importance of contributing to a community. We will also be discussing community government.

In third grade we will be moving from reading picture books to chapter books. We will also be reading more expository books as well. The students will also be learning more about the writing process and developing their own writing pieces.

This year we will continue to build on the basic foundations of math. These include place value, money, patterns, geometry, and problem solving.
It is always a good idea to work on math facts at home!
