Handy Dandy Guide to English II

WELCOME TO SOPHOMORE ENGLISH! This semester we will be working on literature pieces from Elements of Literature. In addition to the textbook, additional outside readings will be required. We will also work on Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) in class.

1. You will always need a pen, sharpened pencils, loose-leaf notebook paper, and a notebook / folder for English. I do not provide any supplies. Be ready when the bell rings. I will not wait on you to get ready. I recommend you use an assignment book to keep record of in class work and homework.

2. Daily assignments are posted on a board. You are responsible for checking the assignment board and keeping up with assignments. Work due on a day you are absent is due your first class day back, and it is your responsibility to turn it in. Failure to do so earns a zero.

3. Tests are made up before or after school. You must arrange with me when you are going to do the make-up. You must show up for your arranged time or you will earn a zero for that test.

4. You will receive 3 pinch passes a semester. These allow you to turn in 3 daily assignments one class period late. If you do not use these, you can turn in one at the end of the six weeks to redeem a homework grade, as long as it is not a zero.

5. Major assignments are considered late if you do not turn the assignment in at the beginning of the class period. The highest grade a student can receive for a major assignment that is late is a 70.

6. You will not leave the classroom except under two circumstances: use of an official pass signed by me or a pass from the office / administration.

7. Daily work (class work, homework) counts 55% of the six weeks’ grade. Quizzes are 15% .Tests, essays, and projects count 20%. Participation and class behavior count for 10% of your grade.

8. Attendance is submitted by computer within the first 10 minutes of class. After 10 minutes you are absent, not tardy.

9. The work in this class is demanding and the assignments are designed to get the most information from the lesson. It is imperative that students keep up with assignments and attend every class.
