Welcome to an exciting year in first grade at Rutledge Elementary School! I am looking forward to working with your child as he/she continuously improves academically, emotionally, and socially in first grade. I received my bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood from Southwest Texas State University in 1993. I’ve taught first grade for 7 years and 5th grade for 3 years. I have two amazing children. Austen is 9 years old and is in the 4th grade and my daughter, Avery, is a First Grader. I am fortunate enough to be able to teach at the same school my children go to.
During the school year we will be doing many exciting activities. We have guided reading groups and shared reading. We do Everyday Math and Hands on Science. I love books and reading so I try to tie all my activities to a story. We will focus on several social skills and what it takes to be an important part of our classroom community. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a wonderful and honorable profession.
