Vista Ridge High School Physical Education Program

“The New PE”

Obesity and health problems are on the rise across the nation. Vista Ridge High School is going to be a national leader in high school fitness. There are several important aspects of the overall education process that all Phys. Ed. Students will be involved in. There will be an academic portion to the class. They will be expected to learn physiological, nutritional, and safety issues involved with exercise. The students will be involved in interpersonal skills, and team building.

The most important aspect of Phys. Ed. is teaching lifetime fitness. Our number one goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle after high school is completed. The Phys. Ed. Students at Vista Ridge High School will have the opportunity to exercise on the most advanced equipment in the State of Texas. The National Fitness Foundation has established a grant to promote and research fitness levels of today’s youth. (See Fitness Foundation Overview for more details

All Physical Education Students will be required to:

1) Purchase a PE Uniform. ($20 dollars for shirt and short)
2) Workout each class day. (Physical is recommended)
3) Exhibit mature behavior and maintain a safe environment.
4) Use of this equipment is a privilege. The instructor has the right to remove a student that is being uncooperative or a danger to others, and assign an alternate activity.
5) Students are required to wear shoes appropriate for athletic activity; no flip-flops allowed.

Grading Policy

Each student will be given one daily grade per class period. The grading formula for the class will be divided into 2 parts, 50% for participation and 50% for dressing out. Students must dress out in their P.E. uniforms to be able to participate.
