Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When you are entering grades in GradeSpeed.NET, how do you move from one cell to another? If I hit “Enter” it updates my grades and I have to click on “Edit” again to get back in.

A: Use “Tab” instead of “Enter” to move down from cell to cell. Use “Shift-Tab” to move up.

Q: How can I excuse a student from an assignment with out it averaging a “0” in to the final grade?

1. Msg identifies a missing assignment and is entered by pressing the ‘M’ key. It calculates as a zero.

2. An ‘r’ alongside a grade indicates one that was given as the result of a skill/assignment re-taught or re-tested. It can be added to any grade by typing an ‘r’ following the grade.

3. EXC indicates an exempt or excused assignment and can be entered by typing in an ‘E.’The grade cell is ignored in the calculation to determine the current average.

4. N/G is a ‘no grade’ for that assignment for the student. The Inc is an incomplete for that assignment for the student. (These may be entered in the assignment column in the grade book as well.)

5. By clicking on a student’s average, the Assignment screen for that particular student will come up.
On the left of the screen under Modification is the N/G or the Incomplete, which can now be chosen if the teacher wants the student’s average to be printed as INC or N/G on the progress report. Simply click on the appropriate circle for the desired choice, Incomplete or No Grade, and then click on the average. The chosen designation will appear instead of the average. (“None” is the default, but it can also be chosen.) Inc, Msg, Exc, and N/G can also be assigned to the student’s list of grades from this screen rather than from the grade book screen if so desired.

6. An assignment Note may also be entered to the right of the assignment. Simply place the cursor in the Note area and enter a message. The note will be printed when Teacher Progress Reports are printed if Print Note is selected. These notes will not be printed on Campus-wide Progress Reports, however. The teacher would have to print the progress report for her notes to appear.

7. A personal note may be entered for each student for progress reports, but these notes will NOT appear if the progress reports are printed campus wide.

8. Click Return to go back to the grade book screen.

Q: If the information in the student profiles (like address, parent’s name, etc.) is incorrect, can we change it from within GradeSpeed.NET?

A: Although you can change information in student profiles, your changes will be wiped out with the next download the registrars do. The only exception is the space for email address. Permanent changes to the other information must be submitted to the registrars’ office.

Q: How do I login to GradeSpeed.NET for the first time?

A: Double-click on the GradeSpeed.NET icon that is in “Faculty & Staff Applications” on your desktop. To login, you will need your GradeSpeed teacher ID number (NOT a name; a number!). You will need to memorize this number this year, because GradeSpeed.NET won’t “remember” it for you as in the past. Enter this number in the box that says "User Name". ENTER NO PASSWORD THE FIRST TIME YOU ACCESS GRADESPEED.NET. (After you set a password, you will, of course, enter it.) Then click on the Login button. The first thing that you need to do after you login to GradeSpeed.Net is to set your password. Do this by accessing your teacher profile. You do this by clicking on the link that has you name (toward the left side of the screen).

Q: GradeSpeed.Net won’t let me enter assignments. I keep clicking on the “Assignments” button, but nothing happens.

A: You have to set up categories before the “Assignments” button becomes active.

Q: I am trying to print out a Grade List (I really want a roster, but that report hasn’t been implemented yet). I keep clicking on print, but nothing happens. What’s wrong?

A: You have to have at least one assignment before the print function of the Grade List report will do anything.

Q: Will the tech facilitators be able to tell us our GradeSpeed.NET passwords and/or change them if we forget them?

A: Yes, the tech facilitators will be able to do this.
