Setting Up Sleek It! With Manage IT

Manage It!

Before students can use Sleek It!, teachers must first run Manage It! to setup classes and assignments. Only one user can use Manage It! at a time, therefore you must login to the computer with a special name:
1. Log in to a computer with the Sleek, Teacher id. The password is sleek.
2. Pick the Sleek Workgroup.
3. Open Items for Sleek Workgroup.
4. Double click on the Manage It! icon.
5. Check the date and time, and then click Yes.
6. Click on your name. The password is your first name.
7. Click on the Collect button, if a message regarding History Records appears.
Setting Up Classes

1. Click on the Students tab, and then click on the Classes tab. All the students imported into Sleek will be listed on the left-hand side.
2. Select the students for the class by clicking on their name.
3. To select more than one student at a time, click on the first name, and then hold the shift key down while you click on other names or to select all students, press the apple & a keys.
4. To find students by homeroom, click on the Search button (lower left):
a. Click on the empty box under Student Information and click on password.
b. Click under Compare and click on the equal sign.
c. Type teacher’s last name under Search Values.
d. Click on the Add button.
e. Click on the Search button.
5. Once the student names have been selected, click the Enroll button.
6. The student names will become underlined.
7. Enter in a name for the Class.
8. Click on the box under Instructor, and then select the teacher.
9. Enter a numeric number for Grade.
10. Section/Period are optional.
11. Change the Ending Date to the last day of school.
12. Click the Save button.

Adding Students
Students will be imported into Sleek at the beginning of the school year. Any new students will need to be added by the teacher.
1. From the Students tab, click on the Info tab.
2. Type in the student information. The following fields are required:
• First Name
• Last Name
• Id
• Password (set to first name)
• Grade
3. Click on the Save button.

Changing Passwords
When students are imported into Sleek, the initial password is their homeroom teacherŐs last name.

To auto-assign passwords for a group of students,
1. From the Students tab, click on the Passwords tab.
2. Select the student(s).
3. To select students by homeroom, see the steps above.
4. Click on one of the Auto Assign Password choices. First Name is recommended.
5. Choose Replace All or Assign Missing (only assigns to the students that have no password).
6. Click on the Assign button.
To change the password for individual students,
1. From the Students tab, click on the Info tab.
2. Click on the studentŐs name (use the Search button, if necessary).
3. Type a new password in the Password box, and then click on the Save button.
Assigning Materials
To assign materials to students at the top objective level, follow the steps below. To create custom assignments, see the Creating Custom Assignments section.

1. From the Student tab, click on the Assign Materials tab.
2. Click on the arrow by the Title box to select the appropriate grade level and subject.
3. Click on the arrow by the Classes box to select the class.
4. Click on the 1st tab.
5. Click on the assignment desired. The Preference can be changed from Tutor to Test, if needed.
6. Select the students from the left box that will receive the assignment. To select all students, press the apple & a keys.
7. Click on the Apply 1st Assignment button. This will put a 1 under the 1 column for every student that was assigned that assignment.
8. Continue assigning by clicking on the 2nd-5th tabs and completing the same steps.
Note: Assignments will not be available to a student until the assignments are distributed. See the Distributing Assignments section below.
Creating Custom Assignments
To create assignments that only contain parts of an objective, follow these steps.
1. Click on the Instruction tab from the top row of tabs, and then click on the Assignment Editor tab.
2. Click on the arrow by the Titles box to select the appropriate grade level and subject.
3. Type a name for the custom assignment. The teacher initials will automatically be added to the front of the assignment name.
4. Select the items from the list on the left to be added to the custom assignment by clicking on the item and then clicking the Add Selected Items to the Assignment button.
5. To view and select items at a lower level, click on the View at Question Level checkbox.
6. Click on the arrow by the Preference box to set the assignment mode to either Test or Tutor.
7. Once all the items have been selected, click on the Save button.
8. This assignment will now be listed with the other built-in objectives under Assign Materials tab under Students (see directions above).
Note: Assignments will not be available to a student until the assignments are distributed. See the Distributing Assignments section below.
Distributing Assignments
Assignments can be created and assigned to students at anytime, however the assignments will not be available to a student until the assignments are distributed. Distribution cannot be done if there are students using IT!, therefore assignments should only be distributed before 7:30 am or after 4:00 pm. Distributing while students are using IT! could corrupt the database. Follow the steps below:

Create assignments and assign to students at anytime.
1. Press File, Quit.
2. At the Distribution message:
3. If it is before 7:30 am or after 4:00 pm, click on the Distribute button.
4. If it is within the school day, click on the Never Mind button.
5. If you created the assignment during the school day and now need to distribute it (before 7:30 am or after 4:00 pm):
a. Start Manage It!
b. Click on the Distribute button at the top of the window.

Quitting Manage It!
- --
1. From the top menu bar, click on File-Quit to exit Manage IT! program.
2. If it is before 7:30 am or after 4:00 pm, click on the Distribute button, otherwise click on the Never Mind button (see the Distributing Assignments section above for more information). -
3. If you receive the message about some students not having assignments, never click on the button to give default assignments.
4. Manage It! should always perform an automatic backup when you quit. Please do not interrupt the backup, as it might corrupt the database. The backup can take up to 5 minutes.

Other Options
Viewing the Problems
Before customizing an assignment you might want to view the exact format of the particular problems associated with an objective.
1. Login to Sleek, Teacher
2. Start It!
3. Click in the Standalone checkbox
4. Click on the desired Title on the left
5. Click on Student, Sammy A. on the right
6. Click on the Start button
7. To view problems for a particular objective:
a. Click on the Go to menu option on the top toolbar
b. Click on Problem
c. Click on the specific problem
d. Click on OK

Prescriptions
Prescriptions can be setup to group a set of assignments.
1. Go to Manage It!
2. Create the custom assignments, if needed.
3. Click on the Instruction and then the Rx Editor tabs.
4. Select the appropriate Title.
5. Name the Prescription.
6. Click on the desired assignments on the left.
7. Click on the Add button at the bottom.

Preference Set
Preferences can be setup and saved to control how some functions of a student’s session. The complete set of preferences available is in the Manage It! User’s Guide, Appendix E. Examples of some of the options available:
1. Progression: stay on the same item until mastered, enable lesson only after attempt
2. Scoring: mastery percentage, minimum number of questions
3. Access: display of explanation or warm fuzzy windows, enable printing, enable aplomb (confidence) slider
4. Misc.: font size, background color, require answer
