 Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to fourth grade at Block House Creek Elementary. My name is Mrs. Valerie Baca, and I am fortunate to be part of the fourth grade team. I will be team teaching with Mrs. Sue Nordhausen this year. I will teach Reading, Writing and Texas History and Mrs. Nordhausen will teach Math and Science.
I entered the teaching profession late in life. My first degree was in Computer Science from Texas A&M University in 1985, and I worked in that field for almost 10 years. I left that field to stay at home with my two young children, both of whom have completed 6 years here at Block House. My daughter, Mary, is a junior at Vista Ridge High School and my son, Adam, is a freshman at Rouse High School. While my children were at Block House, I learned what an amazing impact good teachers and a warm, caring, forward thinking campus can have on students and parents. Through volunteering, substitute teaching, and other jobs here at Block House, I realized I have a real passion for teaching and a strong desire to be in the classroom. I pursued that dream and went back to school to earn my teaching certificate.
My priority in fourth grade is to build a safe, positive, encouraging classroom environment where children feel free to try new strategies and experience enrichment in a way that can help them become successful. I want to build a relationship with my students and their families, so we can all work together to help students reach their full potential. The best way to reach me day or night is by the email address or the voice mail box that are listed below. My conference time is 8:25-9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and I am also available most afternoons until 4:30 p.m. I look forward to our partnership.
