Hi,
My name is Valerie Reyna and I teach pre-AP/IB chemistry and AP/IB chemistry. I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the State University of New York at Brockport. I have been teaching since 1987. I really like what I do, especially
doing demonstrations when I explain the material. I keep a balance between teacher instruction and hands on activities.
During the first semester we concentrate on the periodic table, atomic structure, chemical bonding, and formulas of compounds. In the second semester the emphasis is on chemical reactions and chemical quantities (mainly moles), acids and bases, redox and electrochemistry. Though first semester does have some math involved, the second semester involves quite a bit more math. Students will also receive review material for the TAKS test. With enough effort, students should be successful in chemistry and on the TAKS test.
