Miss. Colunga's Lions
Welcome to first grade! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your child this year. First grade is a fun and exciting grade. I look forward to being there with your child every step of the way.

I would like to take this time to tell you a little bit about my educational background and myself. I have lived in Austin for the past seven years since attending the University of Texas in 2001. I graduated in December 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I grew up in a small Texas town called Gonzales. However, all my family now resides in Houston, which I spend a lot of time with my adorable nephew. I am going into my fourth year of teaching first grade at Rutledge. I love teaching first grade because it is a time when children begin to take ownership of their own learning and grow tremendously in all areas. I strive to meet the individual needs of each student.

In order for your child to reach their full potential I believe communication between parent, teacher, and student is essential. It is my desire to have open and frequent communication with you throughout the school year. My conference time is 8:40-9:30. The school phone number is (512) 435-4626. Please feel free to contact me during my conference time or after school if you have any questions or concerns about your child. You may also email me at virginia.colunga@leanderisd.org.
