Campus Printing Guidelines
Now that we are comfortable with our network printers and how to choose a printer, there are some things to consider when printing. The first things involve budget considerations:

*printers are responsible for a portion of the paper consumption on the campus
*heavy graphics utilize large amounts of toner and toner is part of the campus budget
*because we do not have an unlimited amount of supplies we must be aware of teaching our students about “responsible printing.”

Responsible printing includes:
• Print one copy only
•Use the copier in the workroom or the copy center to make multiples, including class sets

Printing Graphics From the Internet
• Graphics should never be directly printed from the internet. They are rarely the right size for the student needs and everything on the site prints along with the graphic. Click Here for an attached step-set on how to save graphics from the web and import them into a document. When students use graphics this way, they can resize and adjust the picture to fit the purpose.

Printing Articles From the Internet
There are many things to consider when printing articles from the internet because the purpose is varied.
•If this is an article that the entire class is going to read, consider printing one copy and sending it to the copy center or have all of the students read it from the internet.
•Make sure the students bring paper and pencil to the lab to take notes from what they read. This is especially important if they are just gathering facts.
•If they find an article that has all of the information they need, then they may print and get a highlighter. They may read and highlight while others in the class are searching for their information. It is important to use the information we print.
• If they find small bits of information at various sites, then copy paste the important information into a word processing document from each site.

General Printing
• Students should only print assignments that are going to be used for evaluation of a curriculum objective.
