Rangers Assisting Peers (RAP) is a groundbreaking program designed for school communities based on the Natural Helpers program. RAP is based on the premise that when students have life problems, they often turn to their friends or other adults whom they trust for help, and within every school an informal “helping network” exists.
RAP seeks to identify and bring together this network and provide training and support to those students who are already serving as helpers to their peers. RAP students are nominated by their peers through a once a year, campus-wide confidential survey taken by all 9-11th grade students.
In addition to helping students with personal problems, RAP students will also spend quality time with the VRHS exchange students, special education students, and new students who register in mid-year.
"One of my priorities is to encourage RAP students to take care of themselves; emotionally, physically, and socially as they take on the responsibility of assisting their peers with significant life issues." - Will Fox, RAP Sponsor
I am very proud to be a part of this program. Our 2007-2008 group (pictured above at our annual retreat) is made up of some very special young men and women. We are having a fantastic year.
