The writing process is a model through which higher level thinking skills can be developed. Teachers must be selective about which pieces are taken through the entire process. On-going assessment is inherent within the process.
Prewriting/Planning:
-choose topic
-determine audience/purpose
-decide on a way to plan (storymap, picture plan, list, etc.)
-find, select, and order information
Drafting:
-write using prewriting and planning
-put thoughts down on paper
Revising:
-reshape, recraft, remold,
improving the piece by changing the content
-self, peer, teacher conferences
Editing:
-correct mistakes in spelling,
capitalization, punctuation, usage
-self, peer, teacher conferences
Publish/Share
-rewrite/type piece
-select a title
-illustrate
